Canterbury Equine Clinic, New Zealand

Veterinary medicine has entered the age of specialization.

By fostering the highest standards of excellence the Canterbury Equine Clinic ensures that our patients receive the best surgical and medical care available.

We have a large referral component with over 80 veterinarians throughout the South Island regularly referring cases.

We are available 24 hours a day, 365 day a year.

When referring a patient it is important that the referring veterinary surgeon gives a full medical history. Radiographs, laboratory results and other information can complete this report. All documents will be returned to the referring veterinary surgeon.

First aid should be administered to all horses prior to transport to the clinic. Correct wound care, bandaging, immobilisation of fractures, stabilisation of the general condition, pain medication and placement of a nasogastric tube in colic patients with reflux are essential to increase the chances of successful treatment in the hospital.

Once referrals are made we keep both the client and referring veterinarian informed of the horse's progress throughout the special care. Full discharge instructions are issued to every horse leaving the clinic. A full report is sent to the referring veterinarian upon discharge and clients are directed to their own veterinarian for aftercare.
