Bill
Bishop BVSc.(Dist). MACVS. Dip Vet Med.
After graduating in 1972 from Massey University, Bill
spent three years in general practice in South Otago,
followed by two years in Canada pursuing post graduate
studies. In 1978 he became a partner of the Canterbury
Equine Clinic. Bill is one of three registered specialists
in equine surgery in private practice in New Zealand.

Helen
Bishop BVSc.
Helen graduated in 1972 from Massey University and after
three years in practice in South Otago, she spent a year
as an Associate Professor at the University of Guelph
in Canada. She is a founding partner of the Canterbury
Equine Clinic and is principally involved in clinic management.

Richard
Turner BVSc.
Richard graduated from Massey University in 1989 and spent
ten years in practice before joining us at the Canterbury
Equine Clinic in 1995. Richard became a practice partner
in 2002. He is an accomplished surgeon and has a special
interest in lameness diagnosis and ultrasonographic scanning.

Hamish
Ranken BA, BVSc.(Hons).MACVS
Hamish graduated from Melbourne University in 2000 and
practiced in Australia for two years prior to completing
an internship in equine surgery at the University of Pennsylvania.
He joined us at the Canterbury Equine Clinic in 2004 and
has recently completed his MACVS in equine surgery. In
addition to his surgical skills, Hamish has a keen interest
in lameness diagnosis and co-ordinates our nuclear scanning
facility.

Emma
Reedy BVSc.
Emma graduated in 2007 from Massey University. After participating
in the one year internship program at the CEC, she travelled
overseas to work in the UK before returning to join our
staff as a full time veterinary associate. Emma grew up
in Westport helping her father race Standardbreds and
maintains a keen interest and ample knowledge in this
area of the horse industry.

Marieke
van den Enden BVSc.
Marieke graduated with distinction from Utrecht University
in 2009. During her studies she completed her Batchelor
of Philosophy at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland,
with Prof. Paddy Dixon – a world renowned expert in dentistry.
At graduation she published, in "The Veterinary Journal",
her thesis on “The incidence and clinical effect of Pulpal
Disease the horse”.
She has also studied at “The Academy of Equine Dentistry”
in Idaho, USA. and recently attended an intensive five
day course in Australia under the direction of Dr Oliver
Liyou. Next year she begins a Diploma in Surgery and Dentistry
at Massey University.
Marieke is a full-time veterinary surgeon at the clinic,
with a passion for Dentistry. While growing up in Holland
she was a successful dressage and showjumping rider.

Elisabeth (Liz) Richardson BVetMed MRCVS
Elisabeth graduated from the Royal Veterinary College, London
in 2010. Recently taking a year off from her employment
at the Hall Place Veterinary Centre in Berkshire, U.K. Her
interests include equine anesthesia, medicine and diagnostics.
Swimming and polo are among the past times Liz enjoys outside
of work.

Professor
Wayne McIlWraith
Professor Wayne McIlwraith graduated from Massey in 1970
with BVSc (Distinction) and did his surgical residency
and MS and PhD degrees at Purdue University. He is currently
a University Distinguished Professor in Orthopedics and
holds the Barbara Cox Anthony University Chair in Orthopedics,
as well as being Director of the Orthopedic Research Center
at Colorado State University in the United States. He
is known for pioneering arthroscopic surgery in the horse
and consults world-wide in equine surgery, as well as
leads the largest equine orthopedic research center in
the world.

Guy
Alexander
Guy joins us at the clinic in Janurary 2012 as a specialist
in equine surgery. After graduating from Massey University
in 1989, he spent a short time in mixed practice in Raglan,
Auckland. Several years was spent practicing in the UK,
during which time Guy obtained his Certificate in Veterinary
Radiology. Time working at the Phillip Leverhulme Large
Animal Hospital, Liverpool University inspired him to
specialise in equine surgery, and in 1999, Guy started
a three year residency programme at Murdoch University
in Perth. Surgical training for Fellowship was completed
at Goulburn Valley Equine Hospital, Victoria and the examinations
were passed in 2005. After a brief period back in private
practice in Perth, Guy moved to the United Arab Emirates.
He was one of two surgeons for the primarily responsible
for the Sheiks horses, with a continuous case load of
fracture repair, upper respiratory tract and colic surgery.

Christine
Faass
Christine has been our office manager for over 20 years.
She handles all the accounts for the clinic and should
be contacted for all administrative and account enquiries
and concerns.

Diane
Taylor
Diane is a qualified laboratory technician. She manages
our on-site laboratory services. With a case-load of over
1800 equine blood analyses per year for over 20 years,
she has amassed a vast knowledge of equine hematology.

Tammy
Kelly Certified Veterinary Nurse
Tammy joined us in 2005 after completing her Certificate
in Veterinary Nursing. She is our chief veterinary nurse
and, in addition to her nursing responsibilities, Tammy
is responsible for coordinating patient care within the
hospital. Tammy enjoys riding and competing with her horse.
